• Selective Removal: Coronectomy involves surgically removing the upper crown of an impacted lower wisdom tooth while retaining the roots in situ.

• Suitable Cases: Coronectomy is considered when wisdom teeth are positioned close to the nerve, overlapping the nerve or altering the nerve anatomy which is diagnosed using a OPG or CBCT radiograph.
• Gradual Resorption: Leaving the roots allows them to gradually, fuse to the neighbouring bone and resorb over time, although in some cases roots may become mobile and require a second surgery for removal.
