DENTURES
Dentures are removable tooth prosthetics designed to function and look like natural teeth and used to make for up for one or more missing teeth. Many of our patients choose dentures for teeth replacement if they are not candidates for dental implants or are otherwise looking for a teeth replacement option which is more economical and budget-friendly.
There are two types of dentures – complete and partial dentures. Complete dentures are used when all of the teeth are missing, while partial dentures are used when some natural teeth remain. A partial denture not only occupy whole of the spaces created by missing teeth, it also hinders other teeth from shifting.
A complete denture can be either “conventional” or “immediate.” A conventional denture is produced after the teeth have been removed and the gum tissue has cured. Usually the healing takes 4 to 6 weeks and during this time, the patient will go without teeth. However, immediate dentures are made in advance and immediately placed after the teeth are removed (once the tissues shrink and heal, adjustments will have to be made).
Dentures are very durable appliances and will last many years but due to normal wear it may have to be remade, repaired, or readjusted.

What Does Getting Dentures Involve?
Over a period of several weeks several appointments will be required to get new dentures. Highly accurate impressions and measurements are taken and used to create your custom denture. Several “try-in” appointments may be required to ensure proper shape, colour, and fit. At the final appointment, your dentist will precisely fit and place the completed denture.
It is normal to experience some soreness, increased saliva flow, and possible speech and chewing difficulty, nevertheless, this will subside as your muscles and tissues get used to the new dentures.
You will be given care instructions for your new dentures. Good oral hygiene, proper cleaning of your new dental appliance, and regular dental visits will assist in the life of your new dentures.
